How to clean, moisturize, and maintain a beautiful face
July 24, 2019
We all know how important it is to keep our faces clean and moisturized to ensure its health and vitality, but it's never a bad idea to go over the basics to make sure we're doing the best we can for our skin. As you know, the skin on our face is delicate, and requires a tender touch to keep it balanced and happy.
The first step is to clean your face daily with agentle and safe cleanser. Be sure to use a cleanser or scrub that doesn't contain AHA acids, retinol, or salicylic acid. Any ingredients like that should be avoided at all times. The facewash/scrubyou choose should help to gently scrub off dead skin cells, dirt, and excess oils, nothing more. Read below for a few more basic tips on gentle washing.
Don't over-wash your face, that will only end up doing more bad than good. For example, if you have dry skin, washing more than once a day will only serve to dry it out even more
Be sure to use warm water, as that is gentler and won't cause irritation. Using hot or cold water may be too abrasive to the skin, and nobody wants that!
When cleaning, use gentle circular motions to get the cleanser all over the face. Try not to press hard on your face, it's not necessary and it won't help
The next step is to be diligent about moisturizing your face and keeping it hydrated. Start by using facetonersthat contain no alcohols or acids. You want your face toner to simply seal in moisture after you've cleaned your face. When is it appropriate to use a facetoner? We recommend washing your face, patting it dry with a towel, and then gently misting the toner on your face. Lightly dab your face with your fingers to help the toner seep into your skin. You can also use toner after you've applied make-up, to help it set.
Now that your face is clean, and you've added toner to seal in moisture, adding a cream to moisturize is the next step. It's important to always be thinking about protecting your face from overexposure to the sun’s rays. Be sure to use facial sunscreen that contains only the two true and natural sunscreens: titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. We always recommend using sunscreen that is specifically designed for sensitive skin or baby skin, as these are typically formulated with the aforementioned naturally occurring sunblocks. Other sunscreens don’t block the skin from all of the sun's UVA and UVB rays, rendering them only semi-effective. Though ourOriginal Face CreamandExtra Moisture Day Creamaren't SPF-rated, they do contain both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, and many of our customers have reported it's protected them from the sun's rays effectively.
Lastly, as always, drinks lots of water to stay hydrated throughout the day. This is KEY to having healthy, youthful, and glowing skin! Make an effort to drink less beverages such as coffee, tea, or juice—the more water you drink, the better. And just like your mamma always told you, be sure to eat your veggies! All these steps will go a long way in helping you achieve and maintain the beautiful skin we all desire. And best of all? These are all steps completely in your control, so take those reigns and become the master of your complexion!
